What is OpenLatch

Read this page to understand what OpenLatch does before you install it.

OpenLatch is the execution control layer for enterprise AI agents. It lets you give agents more autonomy without losing control: you define the field each agent plays on, and every covered action the agent takes is decided before it executes.

AI agents do more than answer. They run commands, change files, call tools and spend money, often with broad permissions on the machine they run on. Instructions in a prompt shape what an agent intends, but they cannot guarantee what it does: a long context, a confused plan or an injected instruction can still lead to an action nobody wanted.

PrincipleWhat it means
Inside the agent, not a proxy in front of itThe client plugs into the agent’s own native hooks, so it sees each action while there is still time to change the outcome
Decided before impactEvery covered action reaches the policy decision point before it runs, and the verdict is enforced. A verdict is deterministic because an explicit policy produced it
Local-authoritativeThe client decides on the machine, from a resident policy bundle. It keeps deciding with the network unplugged, and the agent never waits on the network for a verdict
Your intent, in your wordsYou write policy as a sentence. OpenLatch turns it into an Agent Intent Policy and shows you concrete test cases before you ratify it
Evidence after the factThe client sends the record of each action and its verdict to the platform after the decision, for audit and review

The threat model is a misbehaving agent, not a malicious operator: OpenLatch controls what a sanctioned agent does through its own hooks. It is not an unbypassable sandbox.

The clientNext to each agent, on a developer machine or wherever the agent executesWires the agent’s hooks, holds the policy bundle, decides each covered action and records it
The platformapp.openlatch.aiHolds the agent record, the Autonomy Zones and their intent policies, compiles and distributes policy bundles, and stores the evidence
